The Human Security concept, as defined by the United Nations, integrates three types of freedom: “freedom from fear”, “freedom from want” and “freedom to live in dignity”. The threats to human security can be categorised under seven areas: economic security, food security, health security, environmental security, personal security, community security and political security. Geopolitical threats to international peace and stability are becoming increasingly numerous and complex, taking on both traditional and non-traditional forms, including not only war and conflicts, global terrorism and extremism, sociopolitical tensions arising from geopolitical shifts, but also hybrid security threats, such as climate change, forced displacements due to hunger and water shortages, poverty and inequality, pandemics and technological warfare, including the weaponization of Artificial Intelligence and cyber-attacks, and disinformation. The aim of this paper is to conduct a SWOT analysis in the context of security management, highlighting the importance of the human security concept in the fight against the most significant global geopolitical threats impacting the contemporary security landscape. The SWOT model is a strategic analysis tool used in management to consider the strengths, weaknesses, threats and opportunities of an organization. Applied to International Relations, this model allows security managers to achieve greater resilience building capabilities in their response to core global security threats. The structure of the paper is comprised of an overview of the human security concept, followed by the discussion of the importance of the human security concept and its contribution towards achieving global security resilience. The presentation of the SWOT analysis methodology is made, highlighting its applicability for the study of the strategic challenges posed to global defence and security. At last, the SWOT model analysis framework is used to address possible strategies to counter the current global security threats.
